Dr. William Holmes Bond, 98, of Indianapolis passed away October 17, 2014. He was born September 20, 1916 in Toronto, Ontario to Ernest A. and Lucille E. (Haines) Bond. Dr. Bond grew up in Chicago, IL and attended the University of Chicago for both undergraduate as well as Medical School before working as a medical doctor in the United States Army during World War II. He then went on to become a hematologist / oncologist at Indiana University Medical Center, where he was on the faculty as an Associate Professor of Medicine, as well. He also practiced medicine at the Veteran's Administration in Indianapolis. Upon his retirement from the Indiana University Medical Center, he worked as an oncology consultant in southern and central Indiana for Indiana Oncology Hematology Consultants. Dr. Bond was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Society and St. Michael Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by both his loving wife of 31 years, Dr. Peggy King Bond, and his son, James King Bond, who passed away in 1988. He is survived by his sons, Roy A. and Robert S. Bond; daughter, Linda J. Bond; grandchildren David Bond, Ray Bond, Rhonda Bond, Roger Bond, Caitlin Bond, William Bond, Kevin Bond, Yasmine Bond Ali, and Adam Bond Ali; great grandchildren Eliana and William Bond. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Stevens Mortuary, 5520 West 10th Street, Indianapolis, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 25 at 10:00 am in St. Michael Catholic Church, 3354 West 30th Street, Indianapolis. Burial will follow at Washington Park North Cemetery.
