Obituary of Raymond F. Sommers
Raymond F. Sommers, 99, of Brownsburg passed away on October 19, 2024. He was born in Indianapolis to William R. and Leona Sommers on August 17, 1925. He was an electrician for the Local 481 IBEW, Watson Flag and Miller-Eads. Raymond proudly served for his country in the United States Navy, he was a WWII Veteran, serving from 1943 until 1946, he also served in Brisbane, Australia and the Philippines. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 3682, Moose Lodge Indianapolis 17, IBEW Local 481, American Legion Post 331 and the Continental Dance Club. Raymond was a parishioner of St. Malachy Catholic Church. He volunteered for years at St. Vincent DePaul. Raymond enjoyed fishing and gardening. He also liked playing euchre, dancing and world mission. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, William R. and Leona (Murphy) Sommers; his wife of 29 years, D. Joanne (Swift) Sommers in 1981; son, David F. Sommers, sisters, Rose Ann Jaffke and Delores C. Glaze; and brothers, William R. Sommers, Paul R. Sommers and James E. Sommers. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Myrna Jo (Singhurst) Sommers; daughters, Linda C. (Bob) Alltop of Clayton, IN and Sharon E. (Todd) Harpold of Thorntown, IN; sons, Steven R. Sommers of Chandler, AZ, Joseph E. Sommers (Carol Thompson) of Mason, OH, Andrew E. (Elena) Sommers of Columbia, S.A., Daniel N. (MJ) Sommers of Salt Lake City, UT, Bruce A. (Mari) Sommers of San Diego, CA; Daughter-in-law Soon Sommers of Suwanee, GA ; sisters, Helen L. Kieffer of Omaha, NE, Mary Gephart of Brownsburg, IN and Theresa Gertrude (David) Mathis of Brazil, IN; granddaughters, Stephanie (Jeff) Karpicke of IN, Courtney James of IN, Adrienne (Bob) Stapleton of N.C. and Lindsey (Ryan) Kozler of IN; grandsons, Jeff (Sassa) Hiatt of Algeria, David (Stephanie) Sommers Jr. of GA, Evan Sommers (Amanda Jones) of GA, Jason (Rachel) Heaviland of IN, Jeffrey (Kayla) Heaviland of PA, Eric (Joanne) Sommers of IN and Dylan (Candace) Alltop of IN; 21 great-grandchildren; step-daughters, Elaine (Chris) Huehls, Linda (Andy) Spears, and Gail Bultman (Troy Radtke) all of IN; step-son, Kevin (Debbie) Bultman of IN; step-grandchildren, Bryan (Sara Marie) Huehls, David (Kendra) Huehls, Heather (Gilbert) Huehls, Rebecca (Rommel) Piña, Paul Spears, Elizabeth (Josh) Auyer, Travis (Danielle) Smith, Savanna Hickle, Trevor Radtke and Evan Radtke; and 12 step-great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Brownsburg Meadows Assisted Living for all their wonderful care, concern, love and kindness during the last five and a half years of Ray’s life. He was an amazing man with a wonderful legacy.
