Obituary of James H Eller Jr.

James (Jim) H. Eller Jr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on September 7, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 81.

 

Jim was born on March 6, 1943, to Howard and LaReta Eller.  He was the husband of Sherry Harrington Eller, brother to Carolyn England, Shonda DePetro, and Carla Weger.  He attended P. S. #67, graduating from George Washington High School in 1961, in Indianapolis, Indiana. 

 

Jim retired from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, with over 34 years of service, attaining the rank of Sergeant.  During this period, he attended and graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Academy.  During the span of his professional life he was presented with several awards, The Lewis Schmidt Award, from the American Legion – Speedway chapter; Sheriff’s Investigator of the Year for two years; Community Service Award, from the 500 Festival Associates. 

 

Jim served as the leader of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department Explorer Post #942 for ten years.  He was also a member of the Lynhurst Masonic Lodge.

 

Jim and Sherry recently celebrated their 61st anniversary on July 27, 2024. 

 

Viewing services will be held at Stevens Funeral Home, 5520 W. 10th Street, Indianapolis, on Thursday, September 12, 2024, 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.  Funeral and burial services will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, at noon.  Calling will be held from 11 am to 12 pm. 

 

Jim is survived by his wife Sherry, the daughter Maribeth, sons Todd, Troy, Richie, grandsons Cooper, Justin, Zachary, and Andrew.
