Dick Vandenbergen was the best boss I ever had. He was fun, smart, great manager. I could tell so many stories about him. Van was more than a boss. He was a friend, a mentor, a confidante. He would guide you through every aspect of your life. He made the Eastern staff a coherent team. I flew back from Florida to be at his retirement party. That’s how special he was. Only one story…but I could tell a dozen. I was at the gate doing my very first flight. Van was in his red coat at the jetway entrance waiting to check tickets and see how I did. I made my announcement on the PA. “Ladies and gentlemen: we will begin boarding with those passengers needing special assistance followed by this passengers seated at the rear of the aircraft. Please take a moment to check your boarding passes for your seat numbers. Anyone needing special assistance may now board the aircraft.” No one moved. Van hollers from the jetway door, “Cody! It’s work a hell of a lot better if you’d turn the mike on!” It was always a surprise and it was always special. Great man and very missed.
My deepest condolences to your family. I'm very sorry for your loss. As I volunteer in Speedway, I'm sure everyone appreciated Richard's gusto in going green. and speaking of green, go Packers. We miss our loved ones and want to hug them again. Our Grand Creator Jehovah reassures us of a hope. acts 24:15-“There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” There is a hope to be reunited again. The joy that time will bring. And then in Isaiah 25:8-“He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces.” At that time we will not experience grief and tears of sadness any more. I hope Gods words gives you comfort and hope.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. We'll continue to cheer for the Packers in his honor!
With Deepest Sympathies,
The Bridges Family
So sorry to hear of your dad's passing. He always had a smile on his face and a great sense of humor. I still remember the trip our family's took to Hawaii together. What great fun.
Sending prayers of comfort to all of you.
My condolences to the family. The loss of a loved one is never easy. John 5:28, 29 says that there is going to be a resurrection. With this promise it is possible for you to see him again. The best friend a bereaved person can have is our Creator, Jehovah God. We are encouraged at 1 Peter 5:7 to pour out our heart to God in prayer because "he cares for you." Moreover, he promises that all who do so will have their thoughts and feelings soothed by "the peace of God that surpasses all understanding." (Philippians 4:6, 7) Please allow God to help you heal by means of his consoling Word, the Bible. May all the many wonderful memories that Richard your loved one provided comfort you during this most difficult time.
My condolences to the VanDenbergen family , your dad was truly a winner and one of the good guys! God bless you all , Dick will be highly missed
So sorry to here of Dick's passing. Glad I got to see him this past year. .He will be sorely missed. I enjoyed working with him in Speedway Project Recycle and on the Solid Waste Commission. Have known him for a long time. I'm sure he's up there having a good time with all the Packer fans. RIP Dick
