Obituary of Thomas Patrick Carroll

Thomas P. Carroll, 85, of Speedway, passed away on Monday, December 14. Tom was born on October 21, 1930, to Thomas Carroll and Mary Dalton Carroll. After graduating from Sacred Heart High School, he worked briefly at the Indianapolis Star-News before enlisting in the Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Currituck for the duration of the Korean War. Afterward, he returned to the newspaper, working his way up in the photo engraving department to become the day foreman, retiring after 40+ years. Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Judy (nee’ Patterson) and his two children, Kevin (Amy) and Suzanne. He was the extremely proud grandpa of Patrick, Andrew, Katharine and Madeline Kenny, and Christopher and Zachary Carroll. He is also survived by his brother John (Jack) and his wife, Shirley, his brother and sister in law, Dave and Brenda Patterson, and first cousins John and Alice Ann Davis, Dave and Diana Davis, and Mary Ellen Smith, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tom enjoyed his retirement by spending lots of time with his grandkids, volunteering at St. Christopher in various capacities, riding his bike and walking around Speedway, and playing cards, especially bridge and euchre, at various venues. He was a Colts and Pacers fan, and like any true Irishman, a supporter of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Vincent de Paul Society or Gleaners Food Bank.
