I am so sorry for your loss, I lost my Mom last year. I have found death to leave me with a feeling of helplessness. May I leave you this word of encouragement that has helped me. The Bible says that God or J ehovah hates death; he views it as an enemy. (1 Corinthians 15: 26) He has "a yearning" to conquer that enemy, to undo death by means of the resurrection.
