Obituary of Beverly Lewis
Beverly Lewis
Bev is especially noted for bringing a sense of meaning, statement or social commentary to all her works,
and has studied with the internationally known artist, Mr. Bill Pattison, as well as with renowned artists, RonMack, George Redmon, Portraitist, and Jan Royce.
Her works show a remarkable range of interests and skills from landscapes, abstracts, pet portraits,
graphites, oils, and sculptures. She had an excellent insight into light, and its components, which make her works all the more fascinating.
Bev has a strong background in human relations management, design, architectural designs, blueprints,
the construction industry, banking, and finance, fund raisers for non-profit organizations; and has served as president of many organizations, most recently as President of Central Indiana Artists, Inc. for three
consecutive years and created many new and beneficial changes. She has contributed many of her works to private and corporate offices as well as to national fund raisers for many worthwhile and important groups that include The National Diabetes Foundation; The Genneserret Foundation and Free Clinic of Indianapolis (for the homeless who must be hospitalized); The St. Jude Children's Hospital, The Indiana Children's Wish Fund; and The National Kidney Institute are just a few of her participations to help raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for much needed charity works.
Bev awards are numerous and 'she has come into her own as a recognized artist'. She was bilingual in Spanish/English and has created and sold a number of businesses. She had affiliations with: Central Indiana Artists, Inc.; Indiana Federation of Artists' Clubs; and is a lifetime member of The California Scholastic Federation. Her commissions are in private collections throughout the U.S.A. and Australia.
She has a rich and varied background as her works now represent; she has done stage designs & productions; served as a vice president of a national women's organizations for four years; served on the Board of Directors of a house of worship; served two non-consecutive terms as president of their sisterhood; was a co-owner and operator of a construction company for five years, designing apartment buildings, drawing the blueprints for those complexes, built for spec and negotiated for the financing of same as well as obtaining and purchasing appropriately zoned land. Bev was a publicity chairman and fund raising chairman for nearly ten years; manager of a retail jewelry store, which was part of a national chain with increased sales goals and production continuously; produced a live radio and television show weekly, as well as interviewed local and national politicians, celebrities and athletes from across America; was an office manager for a wellness institute; and was a member of the Mayor of San Diego's staff prior to coming to Indianapolis.
Beverly has also done many years of volunteer work especially with the homeless and abused of the two cities she lived in.
Bev started and internet web site (www.art-exchange.com) has won numerous awards and has appeared in several galleries. Her one-woman show took place October 20 through October 25, 2003. She has created hundreds of original art works, with many of them in private collections in the U.S. and Australia.
Beverly and Steve McRoberts were the love of each other's life.
Beverly considered her family of four adult children her crowning achievement, however. Her son Stephen and his wife Jane in Franklin, IN; her daughter Debra and her husband David in Sacramento, CA; her son Terry and his wife Rose in Melbourne, Australia; her daughter Suzi and her husband Robert. She is also survived by her six beloved grandchildren: Alexis and her husband Anil; Jordan; Samantha and her husband Ryan; Travis; Bradley; Allison.
Beverly pretty much raised her children on her own; to become adults she was proud of. She was the wife of the late businessman Melvin Hoffman, then the late Fred Lewis, both of San Diego, CA. Burial will take place at Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego, CA beside her beloved parents, the late Trudy and Albert Cohen; her maternal grandparents, the late Ida and Morris Alex Pearl; eternally close to her late brother Harvey Cohen, her paternal grandparents, Sarah and Barney Cohen, the lead architect of the first child labor law, who he sat on the Bench in Illinois in the early 1930's; the entire Hoffman family is also there at Greenwood's Shalom lawn in San Diego, CA. Each family member is very loving and close, to this day, largely her influence. She lived to see six generations of her loving family, and remained a major building block for the entire family. Her loving aunt and uncle, reporter and author the late Leonard Pearl and late Florence Pearl; her two cousins, Roberta Cohen-Black and Dina Pearl-Thomas as well as their children. She also leaves her lifelong friend for more than 65 years, Betty Sherr-Lias.
Services will be conducted at Stevens Mortuary in Indianapolis, IN and also at Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego, CA. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Heart Research Foundation and/or the Indiana Cerebral Palsy Foundation. She was committed believer and made the decision to be a full organ and tissue donor, with the hope for ongoing and continued stem cell research, as she believed it to be the future of many lives saved through its research.
Beverly lived by sharing her gifts and encouraging others to break out, discover the value in ourselves, and dive right in.
Bev will always live inside our hearts, our synergies with other, and our joy of discovery.
