Obituary of Aileen Allen
Aileen Allen, 96, departed from this life on July 26th, 2014. Aileen was born June 17th, 1918 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Estus and Alma Beaty. She was married to Glen Allen, who preceded her in death in the year 2000. Aileen was employed by Stevens Mortuary for 13 years then became a full time homemaker and was a wonderful parent and grandparent. She was a longtime member of Lakeview Church in Indianapolis, where she was a very active member. Aileen enjoyed shopping in downtown Indianapolis in the 1950's and 1960's and often told us stories about growing up as a child in the early 20th Century. Sitting on the front porch steps with a friend wondering what color car would turn the corner ~ green or black? She spent many hours on the telephone just talking to family and friends (which is a trait that still holds true). Aileen always said, "It is always better to be over dressed than under dressed." She was quite stylish until the day she left us. She saw her first 3D movie, "Up", on her 90th birthday and she reached for the objects while laughing uncontrollably. She enjoyed cotton candy on her 95th birthday as the patrons in her favorite restaurant, "Golden Corral" sang her Happy Birthday. In her later years she was affectionately devoted to her dog, Gracie Mae, they were inseparable. Aileen was a wonderful soul that will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by husband, Glen Allen and daughter, Margaret Gillespie.
Aileen is survived by daughter, Blanche Kingery; son-in-law/caregiver, Gerald Gillespie, David Allen and Patricia Kerr; grandchildren and great grandchildren, David Harlos, Donna Robinson, Deborah Harris, Raymond Kingery Jr., Wayne Ford, Michael Gillespie, Steven (Dizzy) Gillespie, Stephanie Gillespie, Benjamin Gillespie, Nicholas Gillespie, Jessica Addy, Erica Harlos, Stacy Barrow, Kari Robinson, Justin Harris, Jerry Harris, Raymond Kingery III, David (Shawn) Allen, Lynette Shewmaker, Dawn Moran and also nine great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31 from 4 pm - 8 pm in Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indianapolis. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 1 at 10 am also in the mortuary. Burial will follow in Floral Park Cemetery.
