Condolences
My condolences to you family and loss of Duane. I received the notice today 10/31/12 and I was saddened to hear the news.
"Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America. Recipients of this award are adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given to the council. "
I went to St. Christopher in the 1960's and my brothers and I were in Troop 500 led by Duane and Kennan. Much of what I learned about scouting, camping, hiking and having a deep love for the outdoors is a result of my experience with Duane.
There are people in my life that had an impact and I have tried to re-connect with them and Thank them. As I grow older, I realize that we are only here for a short time. We never know who we are talking to and the influence we may have on them until later.
I remember the camp outs and the hiking.
TC Steele Memorial Trail 14 Miles. Yellowood Trail 20 Miles. Boy Scout Summer Camp. To say that Duane had an influence or an impact would be an understatement. Everything he did, he was all in it and passionate about it. He led by example.
The Blessing that I have is knowing I will see Duane again.
With fond memories and sincere condolences,
Patrick McCain Speedway class of 1974

I had the pleasure of working with Duane when I was active in the tax assessing world and in local politics. Always a smile and willingness to work hard, I send my sympathies to this fellow Boilermaker's family.
Miss Sharon and family; our very most sincere condolences to you and your family at this time of great loss! I (Jane) sat next to Duane at dinner that nite. He was quiet and so am I, but once I mentioned that our grandson, Nathan Gentry, was going for Eagle Scout, the game was on! He told stories and taught me so much about scouts,I wanted to join, such a witty and interesting man! We know of your great loss, we lost Nathan, our grandson, May 19th, just 6 days before his Grad ceremony (mid-term) at Brownsburg High. A auto accident took him out by West Chase Golf Cource. He did get his Eagle Scout and a member of Fire Crafters also, he adored scouts! I hope, Duane and Nathan meet up there; such a tragedy of both losses! Duane was a leader, smart, and a wonderful husband , father and brother, and loving man; he will be missed by many! Sharon we love you, if you need us just call, you and yours are in our thoughts and prayers. Bill and Jane Burgan
Duane was a great role model for many young men that joined Troop 505. Both of our sons benefited greatly from his knowledge, patience, and kindness. He will be greatly missed.
I wish you comfort and peace in this difficult time. Even though Duane is no longer with us, he left his mark and will always be rememebered!
We are both sorry for the loss of Duane. Duane was to young too leave this earth but god wanted Duane with him so he is not suffering anymore. He is up there pain free and seeing his mom and dad. He is looking down on his family and saying everything will be ok we will meet again.

All three of our sons are better young men today because of Boy Scouts and and because of the great leaders in troop 505 like Duane. He will be missed.
Thank you for being a great scout leader while I was in your troop! Rest in peace Mr. Z, and may the angels bring you to paradise.
Sharon, my condolences, May God Bless you during this difficult time. My prayers are with you and Duane. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. C. Stevens '70 CHS.
