Obituary of Christine Helmer
Christine M. Helmer, 61, of Indianapolis passed away October 14, 2012.Christine was a magna cum laude graduate from Ball State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Marketing. During her adolescent years she aspired to be the first female president, was elected "Senator" while attending Hoosier Girl State and was the president of student council during her senior year at Our Lady of Grace Academy. She spent the last several years of her life working as a chauffeur with National Car Rental at Indianapolis International Airport where she enjoyed conversing with travelers from across the world. She was an avid Notre Dame fan and was honored by two letters of encouragement that she received from Lou Holtz (former ND football coach) during her battle with cancer. She was a loving and giving aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. A very private and fiercely independent woman, Christine's faith, strengthened by Bill W. and friends, allowed her to accept the assistance of her family in her final weeks of life. Additionally, she was very appreciative of the care she received from the staff at Wishard Oncology Clinic over the past several months, and in her final weeks, the Palliative Care Program at Wishard and St Francis Hospice.
She was survived by her mother, Patricia I. Helmer who recently passed away 13 hours after Christine; sisters, Joanne L. (Danny, deceased) Koss, Susan A. (Mike) Fay and Mary P. (Ed) Hougendobler; brothers, Vincent J. (Marlene) Helmer Jr., Robert S. (Ann) Helmer, Thomas P. (Cheryl) Helmer, James J. (Lisa) Helmer and Dennis (Marsha) Morrison; 5 nieces, 7 nephews and 23 great nieces and nephews.
