Obituary of Violet Parrish

VIOLET SYLVIA PARRISH June 20, 1923 - June 18, 2012 Violet Sylvia "Vi" Parrish, 88, died June 18, 2012. Vi was born in Petersburg, N.D. on June 20, 1923 to Margaret "Margit" Asbjornson and Martin Andreas Hildre. She was one of seven children. Vi was raised in Petersburg where she also graduated high school. From an early age, Vi helped and worked at her family's restaurant, Hildre Cafe. Hildre Cafe was visited once by Al Capone. Vi's older siblings had to hide her behind a door, but of course, Vi had to peak out to watch what was going on. Vi eventually found herself in Ogden, Utah working at a restaurant in Union Station as a hostess. It was there where she met a handsome young soldier stationed in Ogden named James William Parrish. Vi and a couple of other people began to talk to Jim and one of the people asked Jim, "Do you two know each other?" Jim quickly replied, "Know each other! We've been married for five years. Ain't that right, honey?" To which Vi quickly replied, "Yes". After the other people left, Jim and Vi were finally alone and Vi told Jim, "For that, you have to come home and meet my mother". They had instantly fell in love and exactly to the month, to the day, to the hour after they had met; they were married. Jim and Vi married on October 7, 1943 and were told by some people that their marriage would never last. Their marriage lasted 66 years until the passing of Jim. After Jim left the service, they moved to Indiana. Vi had worked at L.S. Aryes, The Indianapolis 500, the Coliseum, and Victory Field where she worked with Jim. Vi has led a great life, has met many people, and has touched many hearts. To all who knew her, loved her. Vi will be incredibly missed. Jim and Vi met at the Station.
