Obituary of Ruth Dooley

Ruth (Sorsen) Dooley, 77, passed into Eternal Spiritual Life on April 20, 2012. Born in Calumet, Mich., she was preceded in death by her parents Oscar Sorsen and Jenny (Kivila) Sorsen. Ruth is survived by her husband of 54 years Richard (76), sons, David (53), Kevin (50) and daughter, Kathleen (52), nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one sister, Elizabeth Jean Henry (79). Ruth married Richard Dooley in November 1959 after they met at the Calumet Armory skating rink while he was serving active duty in the USAF. Ruth worked as a legal secretary. She also played piano briefly for St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Plainfield while a member in the late 1960s. Later she transferred her allegiance to the non-denominational Christian faith and became a member at Chapel Rock Christian Church in 1969. Ruth brought up their children in the Christian Church that has influenced their two sons' in their life-long ministries. Over the years, she served on the board for the Christian Women's Club located in Indianapolis, and cared for several foster children and hosted several foreign exchange students who lived in their home while raising their children. She enjoyed traveling with Richard throughout North America, Costa Rica, England, Panama and Morocco. Ruth was admired for her strength to endure her depression and high anxiety struggles throughout most of her life. There was also a white blood cell disorder that took her strength and medications with side effects to bring under control this disease that was painful and irritating. She touched many lives in her lifetime and she continues to be a blessing to her children and grandchildren throughout many generations to come.
