Obituary of Margie Cox
Margie E. Brooks Cox, 90, passed away on Thursday, April 5 at Meadow Lakes Senior Community in Mooresville. She was born October 9, 1921 in Seymour, Indiana to Jacob and Julia Brooks. She was married to Norman F. Cox who passed away in 1990. Margie graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and worked for the Department of the Navy before becoming a full time homemaker. She was a charter member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #452 and had been a proud den mother. The most important things in her life were her faith, family and friends. She is survived by her beloved sons, Daniel N. (Nancy) and Randolph J. (Karen) Cox, three grandchildren, Jacob and Jennifer Cox and Joseph (Gina) Hansen, and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her four sisters, two brothers and two grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff at Meadow Lakes and Advocate Hospice Services for the loving and compassionate care they gave Margie in her final years. On Monday, April 9, there will be visitation from 5pm to 8pm at Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St. Indianapolis, with the funeral service there on Tuesday, April 10 at 10am. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.
Margie Elaine Brooks was born October 9, 1921 to Jacob & Julia Brooks in Seymour, IN. She grew up in a loving family of 4 brothers and 2 sisters of which she was the youngest. She married Norman Cox on May 23, 1942 and gladly became a "railroad wife." After Norman returned from WWII, they were blessed with the birth of Daniel in 1947 followed by Randolph in 1954. Margie relished her role as mother and lovingly threw herself into PTA, Scouts and anything else to nurture her sons.
She loved living in Chapel Hill and was always proud of being a charter member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. She always loved her neighbors-Shirley Praed was not only her next door neighbor for 50 years, but a cherished friend as well. Margie and Norman loved traveling to Myrtle Beach with neighbors Fred and Barb Klepper.
After Norm died in 1990, she also enjoyed her many TWB trips with her nephew, Bill Kelleher. She and her daughter-in-law, Nancy shared many good times on those trips.
Margie knew the pain of losing her first 2 grandchildren, David and Diana, but her faith sustained her…she found particular comfort in Philippians 4:7 "And the peace of God, which passes all understanding will guard your hearts & your minds in Christ Jesus." She became grandma to Joseph Hansen when he was 16 then Randy and Karen blessed her with Jacob in 1987 and Jennifer in 1991. Margie had a special saying with both Jacob and Jennifer….Jacob's was "Who loves ya, baby?" and Jennifer's was "I love you as high as the sky and as deep as the ocean every day of my life." She LOVED being a grandma and also became a great grandma to Samuel, Thomas and Luke. Margie was not only a wonderful mother and grandmother, but Karen & Nancy have always agreed that they had the BEST mother-in-law in the world!! Margie's last few years were filled with many health problems, but she always faced everything with nothing but dignity, patience, love and her complete & abiding faith. Dan and & Nancy and Randy & Karen lovingly walked every step of the way with her-----always knowing what a blessing it was to have her in their lives. For several years, her mantra has been "My bags are packed—I'm ready for God to take me home." God finally came for her and took her home.
Matthew 25:21 "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
John 14:3 "There are many rooms in my Father's home and I am going to prepare a place for you."
2 Timothy:4 " I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith."
