Obituary of Leonard Cressman
Leonard H. Cressman passed away November 16, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family. Len dedicated his life to teaching where he touched countless lives. Len was born June 25, 1945 in Euclid, Ohio, the youngest of three children to Mervin and Hester Cressman. Len spent his childhood in Pennsylvania and graduated from Bethel High School, Bethel Park, PA. He attended Indiana State University, receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Education, followed by a Masters in Education and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. After graduation, Len taught secondary education for 40 years, including 39 memorable years in Wayne Township. He retired in 2008 from Lynhurst 7th/8th grade center. When Len wasn't teaching, he spent his time golfing, camping, hiking, with family. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Barbara J. Collins Cressman; daughters, Jessica Edwards (Jim) Allen and Christina Cressman (Ben Melvin); sister, Carol C. O'Connor; grandchildren, Cooper J. Allen and Frances J. Melvin. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Merz. The family would like to thank Dr. Bolla and his staff at the Prestwick location for the care they took with Len during his treatments, as well as Dr. Weed and his staff at the Cancer Center at Clarian West for their care and support. Calling will be held on Wednesday, November 18 from 4-8 pm at Stevens Mortuary & Family Center, 5520 W 10th St, Indpls. A memorial service will be held there on Thursday, November 19 at 12:30 pm, with visitation beginning at 11:00 am until the time of the service. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society and the Humane Society in Len's name. Online condolences may be made at www.stevensmortuary.net
