Obituary of Robert Lee Henderson

Robert "Bob" L. Henderson Jr., 67 of Avon, IN, passed away at home on January 17, 2025.  He was born on March 30, 1957, in Houston, TX, to Robert L. Henderson Sr. and Lois M. Henderson.

After graduating from Ben Davis High School, Bob attended Purdue University’s Engineering School,  He began his professional journey in Indianapolis with Born Management.  A decade later, Bob returned to Purdue University’s Indianapolis campus to further his education, proudly earning his Computer Technology degree in 1986.

Bob went on to build a successful career spanning over 25 years in the Computer Technology field.  He started as a Senior Programmer and Systems Analyst, eventually becoming a Database Analyst with Praxair Service Technologies, Indianapolis, where he worked for more than 10+ years.  After leaving Praxair, Bob embraced retirement for several years using the time to reflect and pursue his many interests. However, his drive and curiosity led him back to the workforce in 2024, when he joined with Securitas in a role that blended his skills with his passion for security.  Bob remained at Securitas until his passing.

Bob’s life extended far beyond his professional achievements.  A natural storyteller like his father, he was an active member of the Twin Bridges Toastmasters Club, serving in roles including Education Vice President, Membership Vice President, and more recently, Treasurer.  He was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge cherishing the comradery and bonds he forged with his fellow members.

Bobs interests were as vast as his heart.  He enjoyed antiquing, traveling, and performing special deputy work alongside his buddy, Norman Borders. Above all, Bob was devoted to helping others, and this was one of his sweetest qualities.  He quietly and humbly lent a hand whenever someone needed.  Whether donning his Santa Claus suit to ring the Salvation Army bell at the local Kroger, giving his last dollar to a stranger who needed a hand up, or helping a friend move, Bob’s selflessness and integrity shone brightly.  “Doing the right thing” was Bob’s guiding principle.

While his hobbies and acts of kindness were countless, Bob’s ultimate joy was his family and close friends.  His greatest loves?  That’s easy.  First and foremost was his greatest achievement, his son Patrick; next, his sweetheart and life partner, Debbie; and finally, his precious grandchildren. A devoted and doting father, Bob never missed Patrick’s school events, sporting games, scout meetings, pine box derbies, or any event for that matter.   He extended the same unwavering support to his grandchildren, whom he adored. Bob loved fiercely and wholeheartedly, ensuring that those he cared for felt it deeply. If Bob loved you, you knew it, without a doubt.

Bob is preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Henderson, Sr.  He is survived by his loving family: mother, Lois Henderson; son, Patrick (Megann) Henderson; life partner, Deborah Murphy; stepsons, David (Misty) Monson and Mike (Erica) Monson; brother, David Henderson; sister, Susan (Fred) Wix; niece, Lauren (Lorenc) Qorlaze; nephew, Matt (Kaitlyn) Henderson; grandchildren, Annabelle, Blake, Chase, and Sterling; great niece Cora; and a host of extended family and cherished friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indianapolis, with funeral services to immediately follow visitation.  Following the funeral service, the burial will be at Brownsburg Cemetery.  Afterward family and friends are invited to a meal, fellowship, and celebration of Bob’s life at The Well Community Church, 544 Pitt Road, Brownsburg, IN.
