Jane Trowbridge

Obituary of Jane Trowbridge

Jane Margaret Trowbridge, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on October 23, 1946, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Jane was the cherished daughter of Rodney and Norma Phillips. Throughout her life, Jane was known for her kindness, generosity and unwavering love for her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and beloved sister, Joan Butler, who was 17 years her senior. Growing up as only children, their bond was unique and cherished. Jane’s loving memory will be carried on by her devoted daughter, Janet (Brian) Bray, and her son, Jeffery (Christina) Trowbridge. She was a proud grandmother to Lauren (Tony) Gargano, Ryan (Danielle) Trowbridge, Matthew Bray, Ashlyn Bray, Elijah Trowbridge and Madeline Trowbridge, and a great-grandmother to three great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. Jane also leaves behind two nieces who were like sisters to her, along with numerous other family members and friends.

Jane grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from George Washington High School in 1964. She dedicated 34 years of her life to food service at MSD of Wayne Township, particularly at Robey Elementary, where she retired in 2013. Her passion for nurturing others extended beyond her professional life. A lifelong Girl Scout, Jane received the prestigious Thanks Badge—the highest honor in Girl Scouting presented to an adult—in the 1980’s in recognition of her exceptional service and commitment. As a breast cancer survivor, she was particularly passionate about raising awareness and funds for cancer research, coordinating and participating in events like the Race for the Cure and Relay for Life.

Jane had a heart that was as generous as it was kind. She loved to cook and delighted in feeding her family and friends, often finding joy in gatherings where laughter and love filled the room. Her crafty spirit brought creativity to her life, and she cherished moments spent playing games, watching movies, attending her grandchildren's events and sharing hearty laughter.

A service to celebrate Jane's life will be held at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church on January 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in her honor to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or to the missions at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. Following the service, friends and family are invited to come together for lunch in Wesley Fellowship Hall at the church so Jane can feed them one last time.

In these moments of sorrow, we remember Jane for all the moments of love, laughter and kindness she shared with us. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of her loved ones and all those she touched throughout her life. She will forever be missed but never forgotten.

Special thanks to Elara Caring and Life’s Journey for their compassionate support during this time.
