Obituary of Kent Schmidt

Kent Earl Schmidt, a loving husband, father, and friend, passed away on August 25, 2024, at his home in Indianapolis. Born on March 5, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Earl and Irene Schmidt, Kent grew up in Illinois and received his bachelor's degree in liberal arts and sciences from The University of Illinois-Chicago in 1975.

Kent held various roles throughout his life, but his primary interest in journalism led him to a career as a television and radio reporter in northern Indiana for many years. Beyond his professional pursuits, Kent was a devoted sports enthusiast, cheering on his beloved Chicago Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks, and White Sox.

Kent is survived by his wife of 45 years, Denise Schmidt; their children, Lindsay Schmidt and Jason Schmidt; Lindsay’s husband, Robert Weis; their grandchildren, Benjamin Weis, Harrison Weis, Henry Siovaila; Kent’s sister, Cindy Bowman; and her husband, Jim Bowman. Kent is preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Schmidt.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Stand Up to Cancer or The Salvation Army in Kent's name. A private celebration of life will be held by the immediate family.
