Obituary of Valeria Bashenow

Valeria Bashenow, 97, of Sarasota Florida (formerly of Indpls) passed away on August 13, 2024. She was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine and immigrated to the US in 1948. Valeria was a devoted wife for over 64 years to Alexander who predeceased her in 2016. Together they created a beautiful family and home. She loved being a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. Valeria was a joyful, loving, ray of sunshine to all who knew her. Valeria is survived by her five children, Alex (Ruth) Bashenow, Victoria Treadwell, Vera Bashenow, Greg (Kris) Bashenow, and Angela (Michael Ham) Bashenow; grandchildren, Alex Bashenow Jr, Lauren (Andy Schooler) Bashenow, Nicholas Bashenow, Geozeff Graham, Olivia Hume, Maia Rozema, Leila Rozema, great-grandchild, Margot Hume. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6:30 pm, with a prayer service to follow on August 21 at Stevens Mortuary 5520 W. 10th St., Indianapolis. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at St. Stephen Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Church, 1435 N. Medford, Indianapolis, IN, with visitation from 10:00 AM until time of service. Valeria will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery beside her beloved husband, Alex.
