Obituary of Gloria J Shirley

Gloria Jean Shirley lovingly knows as “Glory”, to family and friends was born December 7, 1952.

Gloria’s love for her family and for God was most important in her life.  She was an avid reader who loved to learn about the Bible and different places in the world.  She loved music, singing, and taking weekend road trips.  She was a mother of two daughters and her most valued titles were those of “Nana” to her grandchildren and “Grand Nana” to her only great grandchild.  Gloria loved to laugh and her love language was gift giving.  She was generous and thoughtful and always wanted to know what would make others happy.  She was dependable and steady.  Gloria was stubborn, opinionated, and stuck to her morals. Gloria didn’t realize how beautiful she was or how much others admired her example of living a good Christian life.  Her loss was unexpected and she will be sorely missed.

Gloria Jean Shirley, 71 born in Indianapolis, IN in 1952 to Warren and Pauline Cogswell attended Plainfield High School and graduated in 1971.  She was most proud when she worked as an executive secretary to the Director of Manufacturing at Jenn-Air/Jenn Industries, from November 1979-June 1989.

Gloria was preceded in death by her loving husband of 35 years husband Gary L. Shirley her parents, Warren and Pauline Cogswell and sister Linda Cogswell and is survived by her daughters, Heather L. Newsom partner, (Jeremy Ivey) and Joan (Jody) E. Newsom and her grandchildren Isaiah E. Martinez, wife (Erin Martinez), Darby C. Martinez and Samuel A. Martinez and her great-grandchild Thomas James Martinez and two nephews, Alex, and Wayne Cogswell.

A memorial gathering is Tuesday, April 9 at Stevens Mortuary from 5:00-7:00pm and a Celebration of Life memorial service at 7:00 pm.  5520 W. 10th Street Indianapolis, IN 46224
