Obituary of Anna Starrett

Anna "Frankie" Starrett 80, Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana. Frankie was born in Washington, Indiana on November 13, 1928 to Louis W. and Cora J. Wathen both deceased. She met and married James R. Starrett on April 9, 1946 in Vincennes, Indiana. She started working as a waitress when she was 14 and continued working at various jobs until she left the Nehi Beverage Company. She was a member of Post 2839 since 1961, and a life time member since 1990. As an active member from 1961 until early 1970 she held every chair up to Senior Vice in the Ladies Auxiliary. During this time period she devoted many hours working to fill and deliver needy baskets, cloth a child, poppy sales, the annual Christmas party, and VFW picnic. As she and her late husband were proud to be a part of this organization, they also made it a part of their children's lives - who also continue to share in her passion for the VFW. Her biggest accomplishment was her five children to whom she was a devoted and much loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. This is what made Frankie so great; her complete, unconditional love for her family. She loved to give of herself to all she met and forwarded this trait onto her family, along with this, she loved to sew, work crossword puzzles, and enjoyed the many beloved friends from the VFW who became part of her extended family. Those loved one left behind include: James R. and Gerri Starrett, Rita A. and Eddie Dewesse, Mona K and Myron VonDielingen, Penny S. and Rodger Watts, Richard A. and Lori Starrett, 16 grandchildren, 19 Great-grandchildren.
