Obituary of Sharon McAtee
Sharon Donaldline McAtee 78, went to heaven to be with Almighty God and some of her family on August 30, 2009. Sharon was born into this world on September 14, 1930 to Clark and Lillian Showalter. Sharon was very active in the Indianapolis community and her church. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church for many years. She was a very religious person and a devout Catholic. She chaired the Archbishops Annual Appeal for several years. She also organized and directed the annual church Christmas pageants and the living nativity scene on Monument Circle in Indianapolis. Christmas was her most special holiday. She designed and produced many costumes for the Civic Theater for many years. Sharon had a gift for crafts and creative writing. She made homemade Christmas decorations, then gifting them to family, friends and organizations. She made Halloween decorations for Riley Hospital for Children. She wrote an advice column in the Westside Messenger titled "Ask Shelly" and wrote many short stories for her own entertainment and enjoyment. In her youth, Sharon was a catalog model for L.S. Ayres and Co. and had been employed by Kroger Food Stores. Sharon was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She took great pride in her family. They were the most important people in her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clark and Lillian (Bainter) Showalter; stepmother, Naomi Showalter; son, Bernard C. "Buddy" McAtee and great grandson, Thomas Finney. Survivors include her loving husband and soul mate of 60 years, Walter B. McAtee; sister, Marty (Claude) Ogden; daughters, Theresa E. (Eugene) Smith, Susan K. McAtee, Elaine G. (David) Cox; son, Andrew S. McAtee; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also, lifelong friend, Norma Cutrell. Stevens Mortuary & Family Center, 5520 W 10th St, is handling the arrangements. Visitation will be there from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, September 2, 2009. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, September 3 at 10:30 am at St. Michael Catholic Church. Sharon's family invites you to morn her passing, but also celebrate her wonderful life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Heart to Heart Fund at Riley Children's Foundation, Riley Hospital for Children. Online condolences may be made at www.stevensmortuary.net
