Celebrating the Life of Mary Alice (Hawkins) Florence, the daughter of Virgil and Gertrude Hawkins, born October 26, 1941 in Clarksdale, Mississippi. She was the 7th Child born to this union of nine siblings. Mary was a member of Oasis of Hope Baptist Church, which she served on the Nurses Ministry and also the Kitchen Ministry for many years. Mary also held jobs as a dietician at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and a few other professions. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. Mary Alice (Hawkins) Florence departed life on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the age of 75 years at Eskenazi Hospital. Mary was the greatest mother which started for her at age 16, it wasnt easy for Mary but with the love of her father, sisters and brothers she made it. She grew to be a loving and exceptional woman that all will remember. Mary is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Burton Florence Jr; siblings, Virgil Hawkins, Gertrude Hawkins, Carrie Hawkins and Lou Hawkins; daughter, Tina Florence. She is survived by her children, Debra Johnson, Mary Edwards, Joyce Florence and Burton Florence, Jr; grandchildren, Yelandra, William, Roger, Tiera, Burton III, DeAndre and Lorean; five great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
