Obituary of Nolan Richard Lackey
Nolan R. Lackey, 94, passed away February 2, 2018. He was born October 27,1923 in Opal, Arkansas, to J.R. and Brookie (Spears) Lackey. He was a 1954 graduate of Northwestern University School of Hospital Administration and was awarded an Honorary Doctoral Degree from Franklin College. He was President of Welborn Memorial Baptist Hospital for 20 years before becoming the Executive Director of the Indiana Health Facility Financing Authority. He served on numerous Boards of Directors including The Blue Cross/Blue Executive Committee, The Indiana School for the Blind, and was appointed to the Indiana State Board of Health, Licensing Council by Gov. Otis Bowen. He is a past president of the Indiana Hospital Association and the American Hospitals and Homes for the Aged. He was declared a Sagamore of the Wabash by Gov. Frank OBannon. He was grateful to help promote quality healthcare to the people of Indiana for more than 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Kenneth, Herman, and Louis. Friends are welcome to remember Nolan on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Serenity Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6202 N. Michigan Rd., Indianapolis, with entombment in Mcalester, Oklahoma. Nolan is survived by sons Thomas, Indianapolis, IN; Richard, Coatesville, IN; a daughter Linda Romer, Cincinnati, OH, four grandchildren and a sister, Mary Ellen Austin, Oklahoma.
