Obituary of Keith Lavell "Bird Man" Mayberry
Keith Lavell Mayberry Sr., often called Birdman or Bird by his family, close friends and acquaintances, was born on January 16, 1971 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Marilyn L. Mayberry and Willie Gilbert.
Bird accepted the lord at an early age and was baptized at Shepherd Pathway in 2013.
He received his primary education in the Indianapolis Public School System, and continued his secondary education at Ben Davis High School. During grade school, Bird was a savvy football player using swift moves such as head fakes to get past tacklers. His speed and quick thinking enabled him to drive past the opposing team straight to the goal line. Bird may have been the best all-around halfback in the Haughville community. After his high school years, He accomplished a 20 year career in the construction industry.
As an adult, Bird enjoyed being around family and friends. He frequently expressed how proud and elated he was about his son, Keith L. Mayberry Jr., affectionately calling him Junior, about his outstanding development and achievements. Bird had a passion for traveling, roller skating, playing cards, listening to great music, and watching his favorite football team the Indianapolis Colts play. Bird had a bright and energetic personality and was known for his ability to sense when people needed his help. He touched many lives with his generosity and passion for life. He wrote his own rules, stood up against oppression, paved his own life path, and accomplished many feats in his outstanding life.
Keith Lavell Mayberry departed his earthly life on Friday, February 22, 2019, at the age of 48. He is preceded in death by his mother Marilyn L. Mayberry, step-father Terrell D. Bailey, and grandparents, George and Ruby L. Mayberry.
