Delilah Colbert

Obituary of Delilah Colbert

Delilah (Hollis) Colbert passed away on August 25, 2020. Delilah was born April 9, 1941 to Mable and Henry Hollis in Proctor, Arkansas. She graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis in 1957. She married Jack Colbert in 1960, and together they raised four children. They created a solid foundation for their family, and they made sure they had a lot of fun, whether enjoying each other's company at home, traveling on vacation, or celebrating family birthdays and holidays. Delilah was known for her warm, beautiful smile and gentle spirit. She attended The Blended Church and lived a faith-filled life serving God. For the past five years, she enjoyed serving the Lord by taking communion to people who were unable to attend church service. Whether you knew her as Aunt Birdie, Aunt Jaye, Delilah or Mrs. Colbert, you knew of her compassion, grace, generosity, intelligence and sense of humor. She loved flowers and gardening, and her yard reflected her passion for nature and God's creations. She also enjoyed reading, history, walking, attending cultural events like the Heartland Film Festival, dancing with the Sassy Seniors at Municipal Gardens, traveling and watching westerns. Delilah worked as a histotechnologist for 30+ years at Franklin, Methodist, and Indiana University hospitals before she retired. Her favorite role was as a mother and grandmother. She poured all she had into her family. If her children or other family members were a part of something, she volunteered and donated her time, talent and resources. Delilah was the proud mom, grandma and aunt at so many sporting events, music concerts, charitable events, and awards programs. You could count on her to sponsor a table, and buy the wrapping paper, the trash bags, and the Girl Scout cookies! Her life touched so many, and her absence will be mourned by family and friends. She is survived by her children Jackie Ray Colbert II (Donna), Jayna Ward (Jeff), Jennifer Stringer (Kevin) and Jodi Williams (Abner); grandchildren Jasmine Cox, Justin Colbert, Moriah Sims (Jeremy), Makayla Colbert, Chaz Stringer, Autumn Stringer, Jayden Owens and Jenna Owens; great-grandchildren Angel AdjeiBoateng and Marley AdjeiBoateng; and her sisters Burnette (David) Patton and Irene Simpson. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents, and her siblings Aaron Hollis, Archie Hayes and Nicey Davenport. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Delilah Colbert's name to the Little Red Door Cancer Agency at littlereddoor.org . To truly honor her life, be kind to those who God has put in your trust.
