Obituary of Tamara K. Jacques

Tamara K. Jacques of Indianapolis passed on to her Heavenly Father’s House on March 12, 2024. Tamara was 103 years young and truly led a fulfilled and interesting life. She was born November 3, 1920, in Bryansk, Russia to Kuzma and Antonina Tupikov. She married Ernest Jacques, an American soldier, on May 31, 1945, in Moscow, Russia. Ernest preceded her in death on Dec 25, 1995. She is survived by her daughter, Tatiana Staats of Siesta Key, Florida. She also leaves behind her most special friend, Felecia Dean, with whom she resided for the last 2 years, and Penny Snyder, who is a wonderful friend for over 10 years. Both friends will always hold a special place in their hearts for Tamara.

Tamara led a fascinating life as an Army wife and lived in several places before settling in Indianapolis. She and Ernest were active members of the Woodstock Country Club, which was close to their home in The Golden Hill neighborhood. Tamara was a very social person with memberships in several clubs including, The Progressive Club, English Speaking Union, Garden Club and book clubs. She was a docent volunteer at Newfield’s, formerly the Indianapolis Museum of Art, for several years in the 1980’s and 1990’s. In her later years, she attended St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox church. She loved listening to the sermons from Father Dragon and the Lenton fish fries.

Tamara never missed a good party, loved to sing, and dance, and enjoyed getting dressed up for these occasions. She loved to eat, especially at her favorite restaurant, MCL Cafeteria. Here she always had a piece of coconut cream pie to eat the meringue on top! Her favorite places to shop were Trader Joe’s and Safeway at 56th & Illinois. She was known as a “taste as you go grocery shopper” and all the workers at both stores knew her by name.

Tamara loved to garden and to read books about art and yoga. She taught yoga at the old LS Ayers store downtown Indianapolis for several years. Tamara was an active yoga student well into her 90’s.

Tamara will be greatly missed by all her friends that she has made over the years. She was truly one of a kind!!

In lieu of flowers, Tamara’s family and friends would appreciate donations for the new church building at St Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church 7855 Marsh Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46278
