Obituary of Gary Lee Shirley
Gary Lee Shirley, 59, of Indianapolis passed away on March 5, 2024. He was born in Indianapolis to Harry Allen and Vylittia Chastine Shirley on December 1, 1964.
Gary was a beloved husband, step father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Gary was a gentle, honest, generous, and kind man. He had a hilarious sense of humor. He always had a smile on his face and an infectious laugh. Gary strived to be a good Christian and a living example of a good neighbor, a hard worker, and a trusted advisor. Gary was a talented artist and musician. He loved sharing his gifts with his family and friends. Gary was devoted to his family and took pride in being the absolute best Papaw! Gary will be sorely missed yet his family is proud of the life he led and inspired and encouraged by his example of strength and endurance and his never-ending faith in the Lord. "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." John 14:3
Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria Shirley, his step daughters Heather Newsom (Jeremy Ivey) and Joan Newsom, his grandchildren Isaiah Martinez, Darby Martinez, and Samuel Martinez, and his great grandson, Thomas James Martinez, his brothers Bill Shirley, Phylip Shirley, Danny Shirley, and Tommy Shirley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Allen and Vylittia Chastine Shirley.
A memorial service will be held for Gary 7:00 PM, Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Stevens Mortuary 5520 W. 10th Street Indianapolis, IN 46224 with a memorial gathering from 5:00 PM until time of service.
