Obituary of Edward James Brickel
Edward James Brickel, of Pendleton, IN passed away peacefully on February 22, 2024, at his home and with his loving family by his side. Edward was born in Cleveland, OH on November 20, 1942. He was 81 years of age.
Upon graduating from John Carrol University Edward Brickel joined the Peace Corps and served for two years in Peru. After his service, he continued his Education in Fine Arts at IU. He then relocated to New Mexico where he entered the Holy Order of Mans and later met his wife in Cheyenne, Wyoming while on mission.
After their wedding, Charlene and Edward moved to Indianapolis, IN where he began his career in custom woodworking and sign painting. Edward then opened his own business Heartwood Artisans, a company specializing in custom cabinetry, historic restoration and high-end bespoke furniture.
Edward’s biggest joys were classical painting, photography and spending time with family and friends. He dearly loved dogs, spending time in nature and watching his beloved grandchildren grow up. His kind heart, deep faith and compassionate soul spread warmth and joy to all who knew and met him.
May his memory be eternal.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents Aurthur C.J. Brickel MD and Ethel Dindia; sister Bridgett Coughlin; brothers Aurthur C. Brickel MD and Alfred J. Brickel; and daughter Molly V. Brickel.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, of 46 years, Charlene Ann Brickel; daughters Jennifer Brickel, Stella (Tom) Hardy and Elizabeth (Evan) Polley; son Alexander (Breann) Brickel; grandchildren Simon Brickel, Maxwell Brazys, Parker Brickel, Thea Hardy and Ona Polley; and brother Neil J. Brickel MD.
A visitation and gathering will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Saints Constatine and Elena Orthodox Church 3237 West 16th Street Indianapolis, IN 46222, with a prayer service immediately following. A funeral service will be held in the church on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 11:00am with Fr. David Wey celebrating. An interment will follow with a procession to Washington Park North Cemetery.
