Obituary of Billy Joe Vernon
Billy Joe Vernon, also known as “Buster”, age 80, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on Thursday, December 21 st at IU West Hospital in the presence of his family.
Billy was born on July 10 th , 1943 to Henry; Ann Vernon of Indianapolis, IN. Buster was the middle child of 3 boys. He has one surviving brother, Bobby (Betty) and one who has preceded him in death, Henry/”Hank” (Deborah). Buster was a machinist and employed by Wabco for 18 years and retired from Rexnord in 2007.
Billy married the love of his life, Janet Branson of Indianapolis, IN on April 26 th , 1961 in Bedford, KY. They recently celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Billy’s proudest accomplishment was his marriage and family. He was the rock of the Vernon household and enjoyed Sunday afternoons when the children; grandchildren visited. Buster enjoyed cracking jokes and giving “Mamaw” the desires of her heart. He was an extremely hard worker and installed those values in his family.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Vernon, his 3 children; Billy (Kelly), Jim (Paulette) and Lisa (Danny), 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Stevens Mortuary on Thursday, December 28 th , 2023. Visitation will be from 11:00am – 1pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 1pm. Associate Pastor Arnold Calhoun will be officiating.
