Obituary of Earle Dodds Stevenson III

Earle Dodds Stevenson III, 78, of Indianapolis, died November 13, 2023. 

Despite being born in Chicago on January 13, 1945, Earle was a Hoosier through and through, having graduated from Indianapolis's North Central High School, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, then on to acquiring his master's degree in Business Administration from Wabash University. Earle found work immediately after college in 1967 with Citizens Gas & Coke Utility and retired in 2000, after 33 years of service.

Earle became a Freemason in 1969 and, that same year, also became a member of the Scottish Rite. His other endeavors included being a member of the Murat Shrine Temple for over 50 years, a lifetime membership with the Independent Pleasure & Benefit Club, and membership in the Indy Hi-Winders Car Club. Past memberships include the Gattling Gun Club, the Antelope Club, and the American Eagles. 

Earle was a passionate race fan, especially when it came to the Indianapolis 500, attending his first 500 with his family in 1961 in addition to many other races since the late 1950s. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Sun Outdoors RV Resort in Sarasota, Florida, and was also a lifelong fan of Purdue Boilermakers sports and the television show Bonanza, going so far as to name his dearly departed dog "Hoss," after the character played by Dan Blocker. 

Earle was preceded in death by his father, Earle D. Stevenson II, mother Viola "Muz" Stevenson, and wife Mary Beth Stevenson. He is survived by his son Doug Stevenson, grandson Charlie Stevenson, sister Beth Siculan and family, brother Todd Stevenson and family, step-daughter Cindy Nickles and her children Kyle Craciunoiu and Kayla Amonett, and longtime companion Debbie Jones.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
