Jerry Stewart

Obituary of Jerry Lee Stewart

Jerry Stewart, age 80, of Indianapolis peacefully passed away October 4th at Life’s Journey Hospice. He was born March 17, 1943 to Paul and Lillian Stewart. He married Roberta (Bobbi) Stewart on July 18, 1961. She preceded him in death.

Jerry started working at Wabco, and he quickly moved up the ladder there. He moved to Peoria, Illinois in 1983 to work at Dresser. In 1986, he returned to Indianapolis and retired from Lilly Industrial Coatings in 2004. Jerry could build and fix just about anything. He built a house in Pittsboro, a houseboat, and a big boathouse. You would always find him helping friends and family build and fix things.

Jerry enjoyed spending time with family and friends and being at Lake Freeman. He and Bobbi would spend most of their retirement years at the lake enjoying their pontoon boat and happy hour with friends and family. He also loved fishing, racing, Corvettes, and his dogs! Jerry and Bobbi would host many race parties in Speedway over the years. Jerry also loved collecting lots of things and having “Board Meetings” with his brothers.

He is survived and will be missed by his daughters Kim (Jeff), Purdy, Shellie (Gus) Sturm, and son Brian Stewart. His grandchildren Jill (Carly) Purdy and Jay (Andrea) Purdy. Along with two great grandchildren Ellie and Hayden Purdy. He is also survived by brothers Russ (Sharon) Stewart and Ron (Paula) Stewart. He also has several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the neighbors Michelle and Karen for helping watch out for him while he was living at home. We also need to send a huge thank you to Ron Stewart for helping us with dad. Finally, the family would also like to thank the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice, especially Hannah and Heather, and the staff of Life’s Journey who helped make his final days peaceful. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the charity of your choice.

The services will be private. Thanks to all of our family and friends who have reached out to us during this difficult time.
