Obituary of Lenora Jane Gibson
Lenora Jane Gibson (92) passed away peacefully in her home on March 14, 2023. She was surrounded by loved ones as she left her earthly body to reunite with her loving Husband.
She was born November 18, 1930 to Ralph and Helen Springer of Waynetown, Indiana. She was an avid reader and from an early age she knew she wanted to be a nurse.
After graduating Waynetown High School, she attended the diploma nurse program at Lafayette Home Health Hospital. Once she earned her Registered Nurse license, she dedicated her life to the nursing profession. She began her career as a surgical nurse at Culver Union Hospital.
In 1952 she married the love of her life Kenton (Kenny) Gibson of Bainbridge. They had 2 sons, Kent Glenn Gibson in 1956 followed by Dean Allen Gibson in 1957.
In 1956 she moved to Indianapolis where she worked as a surgical nurse for Methodist hospital. After 6 years, she joined her husband working for General Motors. This was when she realized her love for occupational health nursing. She retired from General Motors after 28 years. In her retirement she worked another 11 years for Community Occupational Health.
In 1967 she became a member of the Association of Occupational Health Nurses (A.O.H.N.) serving as President from 1986-1990. She was also a very active member of the Mid-Indiana A.O.H.N. where she held many offices including President, Vice President, and held a seat on the Board of Directors.
In her free time she enjoyed reading, puzzles, and trips to Hawaii with her Husband who adored her. She loved spending time with her sister Bettie Lou. The two of them loved to eat spicy food, and never missed an opportunity to enjoy ice cream together. Lenora was an avid, and accurate record keeper. She researched and created an extensive family tree for the Springer/West family and organized the Annual West family reunions for over 40 years.
Lenora is preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Helen Springer, loving Husband Kenton (Kenny) Gibson, brothers Leon Springer and Roy Springer. She is survived by Sons; Kent Glenn Gibson (Jayne) New Palestine, IN, Dean Allen Gibson (Terry) Indianapolis, IN, Sister; Bettie Lou Carver, Albuquerque, NM. Grandchildren; Christy Gill, Speedway, IN, Joe Gibson, Indianapolis, IN, Andy Gibson, Greencastle, IN, Jasmine Davis, Franklin, IN, and Nina Turner, Indianapolis, IN. 15 Great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Services for Lenora will be held at Steven’s Mortuary 5520 W. 10th Street, Indianapolis, IN, on Tuesday March 21, 2023; with viewing from 11am-1pm, service begins at 1pm.
The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the amazing employees of Compassus Hospice for the compassionate care you provided Lenora during her final time on this earth. Your dedication to providing not only excellent patient care but also care of the family is sincerely appreciated.
