Obituary of Shirley Rose Ramsey

It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Shirley Rose Vernon Ramsey. Shirley was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 17, 1935, and died on Friday, December 2, 2022. She was predeceased by her parents, Kirk and Eva Mae Vernon as well as eight siblings, James (Rose Anna), Henry (Ann), Paul, Opal (J.C.), Eugene (Martha), Maxine, Janice and Portia. After a brief first marriage, she married Russell Ramsey in June of 1961. He predeceased her in 2004. Shirley worked for Speedway Frozen Food Lockers and volunteered as a teacher's assistant in Mrs. Robert's kindergarten class at Ernie Pyle School #90. She was a long-time member of Wesley United Methodist Church and read her bible on a daily basis. Shirley loved shopping, going to the movies, George Jones, Elvis, Long's Bakery, McDonald's vanilla ice cream cones, true crime and reality TV shows, watermelon, and spending time with her family. Survivors include her only child Shirley (Tom) Stempson, grandson Shawn (Candy) Smith and great-granddaughter Isis Smith. She was blessed with two bonus granddaughters, Kristine (Chad} Young and Karen (Dave) Wade and many bonus great-grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and friends. Whether you called her Mom, Nan, Aunt Shur-Shur or Big Shirley, you knew you could always count on her to be there for you. Her signature good-bye was always, "I leave you in Jesus' care." To our north star, rock and matriarch, "we leave you in Jesus' care”. “In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Shirley Ramsey’s name to St Jude hospital for children.
