Obituary of Lois Jean Boyd
Lois Jean “Smith” Boyd (Nan to her grandchildren), was born on February 23rd, 1950 in Ewing, VA to Jesse Smith and Beatrice Stowe Gulley. Lois passed away September 7th, 2022 at the age of 72 years young, surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Lois spent most of her life in Indianapolis; after moving there around the age of 12. She worked in downtown Indianapolis for several years before staying home to care for her children. Lois would later go on to instruct water aerobics for Indy Parks for nearly 25 years. This was a passion of hers. Early in Lois’s life, she enjoyed camping and cooking by the camp fire. This was where she would eventually convince her husband Larry to drink his first cup of coffee. Later in life, Lois (Nan) would spend most of her time with her family and friends gathered around the table, listening to music, eating delicious home-cooked meals (fried chicken & biscuits & gravy were a house favorite).
Lois was a fan of nearly all genres of music, but Rock N Roll sure was her favorite. There wasn’t a Bob Seger or Rolling Stones song that she could ignore. Her favorite movie was Gone with the Wind, but most of the time, you could catch her watching a Western.
Lois is survived by her loving husband, Larry Boyd; brothers Jim, George, and Robert (Bobby) Smith; her daughter Kelli “Smith” Kersey, daughter Lori Smith, and son, Matt Boyd; her grandchildren, Jake Kersey, Caleb Partain, Christopher Kersey, Hera Boyd, and Sebastian Boyd; and her great-grandchildren, Barrett and Baylor Kersey; many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Lois will always be remembered for her tender heart and selfless spirit. She was always there for anyone, whenever they needed it. We will all miss this “young and beautiful” woman.
