Obituary of Robert Vasileff

Robert Theodore Vasileff 72, of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2010 in St. Vincent Hospice. He was born on December 14, 1937 in Indianapolis. He graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in 1956 and received his Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from Purdue University. He was honorably discharged from the USAF as a Captain. Mr. Vasileff married Mary C. Gehl on May 7, 1967. Bob worked as an organic chemist in Research and Development for Eli Lilly & Co. for 33 years, retiring in 2000. He coached many youth sports for his son and daughter, enjoyed playing golf and loved magic. He was a member of: Society of Magicians, Fellowship of Christian Magicians, and International Brotherhood of Magicians. He was a member of St. Stephen Orthodox Church serving in various capacities at both the church and Diocese levels. Bob was preceded in death by an infant sister and his parents, Theodore and Aspacia Vasileff who immigrated to this country from Florina, Greece. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mary Vasileff; daughter, Cathe (Ryan) Keen, Indianapolis; son, David Vasileff, Palo Alto, CA; grandsons Matthew and Brendan Keen; sister, Nancy (Joe) Mucha, Pittsboro; several brothers and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews and several cousins. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 29, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Stevens Mortuary & Family Center, 5520 W. 10th St., Indianapolis. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with a half hour of visitation before at St. Stephen Orthodox Church, 1439 N. Medford, Indianapolis. Entombment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen Orthodox Church or The American Cancer Society. www.stevensmortuary.net
