Obituary of Philip J Link
Philip Link passed away on September 16, 2018. He was born in Dubuque, Iowa on July 3, 1932 to Joseph and Marie (Richard) Link. Philip was raised and educated in Dubuque where he graduated from St. Columbkille’s and attended Loras College. Additional education was received in the military service. He served in the USAF during the Korean War from 1952-1956, receiving an Honorable Discharge. He then began his lifelong career at the Indianapolis Air Route Traffic Control Center where he was a controller; instructor; and supervisor. Philip retired in 1988 with 35 years of Government Service.
Philip coached junior basketball in the CYO and Municipal Gardens League in the seventies. After retirement he spent may years doing volunteer income tax returns in the VITA and TCE programs. Memberships groups: Knights of Columbus #3682; Fourth Degree Assembly 245; American Legion Post 500; NARFE Chapter 151; and St. Christopher Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by both parents; brothers Richard (Mary) Link; John (Mary) Link and son Gregory (Lani) Link. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Barbara Farrell Link; daughter Catherine Link and son Thomas Link. Also surviving are sisters Lois (John) Drexler, and Mary Virginia (Richards) Meyers; and brother Joseph (Connie) Link Jr.
Nurse wife Barbara was a wonderful caregiver the past ten years helping Philip cope with Multiple Myeloma Blood Cancer. Donations may be made to Multiple Myeloma Research Fund PO BOX 7072 Indianapolis, IN 46207.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, September 24, 2018 at Stevens Mortuary 5520 W. 10th Street Indianapolis, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at St. Chrristpher Catholic Church 5301 W. 16th Street Indianapolis, IN, with visitation from 9:30 AM until time of Mass.
