Obituary of Ben J. Davis
Ben J. Davis, 81, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017. Ben was born on March 23, 1936 to Ben Davis, Sr. and Eva (Harvey) Davis Bronk in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ben proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving in Korea as a gunner on tank in the 3rd armored division from January 16, 1951 until July 16, 1953. He was a member of the American Legion Post 500. In his youth, Ben was a Golden Gloves boxer. He was a devout Union man, a Teamster Local 135 as a Combination Driver. Ben was a tremendous youth advocate. He established Eagledale Football League in 1992; sponsored the baseball team, The Challengers at Eagledale Little League for special needs youth, he sponsored several basketball leagues. He was also an advocate for youth education. Ben worked with local schools on many levels, assisting wherever he was needed. Ben truly loved children and wanted them to succeed. He encouraged higher education. He mentored many young men and their success was his reward. He was a great a husband, father, grandfather and friend; and is already missed terribly.
Ben is preceded in death by his parents, Ben Davis Sr., and Eva (Harvey) Davis Bronk. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Helen (Copeland) Davis; daughter, Jane (Cutter) Stephens (Charles); son, George W. Davis (Katie).
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Indiana Veteran’s Home in West Lafayette, IN 47906 or to The Salvation Army.
