Obituary of Marvin E. Pleak

~~Marvin E. (Gene) Pleak 81, Avon, passed away suddenly on August 8, 2017.  He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary F. (Chekoff) Pleak, daughters Cheryl Pleak (Mike) Copeland of Carmel, Peggy Pleak (Mike) Morris of Brownsburg, son Michael (Jennifer) Pleak of Indianapolis, grandson Sam Morris and granddaughters Sydney and Sarah Pleak.  Gene is also survived by his brother Bruce (Marty) Pleak of Indianapolis, sisters Charlene (Joe) McGinley of Indianapolis, Debra Lowery of Indianapolis and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Born on October 26, 1935 to Marvin R. and Hedwig Ann Pleak, Gene was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis. He graduated from George Washington High School in 1953 and served in the United States Marine Corp Reserves from December of 1955 to May of 1959.  He worked in sales all his life and most recently retired from Crown Screw and Bolt.  He was a member of Post 331 American Legion in Brownsburg.
Gene loved sports and coached his daughters Cheryl and Peggy in softball at NYAA for several years.  He also coached his son in football starting when Michael was in 2nd grade.  He loved it so much that he continued coaching even after Michael moved on to play high school football.  Gene enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, attending events they were involved in such as soccer, baseball, volleyball and music concerts.
Gene and Mary are both die hard Colts fans.  They have been season ticket holders for 24 years and even attended the Pro Bowl in Hawaii in 2006, celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary. 
Gene’s real passion was fishing…he loved to fish!! He took all three of his children fishing over the years but only passed his passion along to his son Michael.  He and Michael enjoyed many fishing trips, tournaments and even just pond fishing together. He so enjoyed his annual fishing trip to Patoka Lake with his brother Bruce, son Michael, grandson Sam and several nephews. 
Lastly, Gene was a family man…very proud of his three children and three grandchildren.  He never knew a stranger and was loved by all.  He will be truly missed by the love of his life Mary, his children Cheryl, Peggy and Michael and their spouses Mike, Mike and Jennifer, his grandchildren Sam, Sydney and Sarah, his brother Bruce and sisters Charlene and Debra, his nieces, nephews and cousins and all who knew him. 

Services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th Street, Indianapolis, with visitation from 9:00 am to time of service.  Celebration of Life lunch immediately following the service at the American Legion Post 331, 636 E. Main Street in Brownsburg.
