Obituary of Suzanne Breen Casper
Suzanne “Sue” Breen Casper 83, of Indianapolis passed away on August 6, 2017. Born January 5, 1934 in Liberty, Indiana to Louis and Mary Breen where she was raised on the family farm. Upon graduation from Short High School in Union County she moved to Indianapolis and attended St Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1955. While attending nursing school she met her Frank Casper her future spouse on a blind date at the Tepee restaurant on the east side of Indianapolis. They were married on August 18th, 1956 and began that whirlwind adventure called life. Together they raised 7 children, all of whom survive her. There was never a dull moment in the Casper household. Sue and her family loved to camp, making good use of the many National and State parks in the beautiful outdoors that Sue loved. Sue also created a loving home for her family with a front door that was always open to all of her children’s friends; with 7 kids what difference did a few dozen more make! She was always ready to jump in and play a good game of Euchre with them. In what little spare time Sue had, she loved to read, garden and watch the birds at her feeders. As her grandchildren entered her life, she loved to spend time with them. They all have memories of going to Grandma’s and playing Candyland, Memory or Chinese Checkers. They also loved making brownies with her or finding the chocolate that she always had stashed away. They all knew that she loved nothing better than coming to their sporting event, music performance or school play.
Sue was a woman of strong faith. She was a founding member of St Gabriel Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic Minister. In her later years she attended St Christopher Church. After her own children were raised she volunteered at St Mary Child Center in Indianapolis.
When Sue took her last breath here on earth, she took her first breath in the arms of God, a place she dreamed and talked about being. She lived faithfully the words of 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” This verse could also be phrased this way in her words. “By knowing that your strength comes from God above you can pick yourself up when things get hard. You can always let things roll off your back. Remember what happens to you does not define you. No need to ever hold grudges. Dance in the rain, as you will not melt. Remember at the end of every day to be thankful to God for the gift of breath”
Frank and Sue were married for almost 55 years when Frank passed away. Her sister, Joyce Breen Rehfeld and Brother in law Bob Rehfeld, also preceded her in death. Survivors include her children Sharon (Tom) Wilson, Mike (Susan) Casper, Debbie (Andy) Horn, Cindy (Tom) Vondersaar, Becky (Jim) Wiltsee, Kim (Howard) Horn, and Christina Cozzolino. 22 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren also survive her. She is also survived by her brother Daniel (Julie) Breen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
