Obituary of Alfred R. McCormick
Alfred “Al” McCormick, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was called Home by God on March 8, 2017 at the age of 93. He was born April 7, 1923 to David & Anna McCormick of Iona, Minnesota as the fourth of nine children. Al joyfully married Doris Ann Meaden in 1949 and they were married for over 67 years. His keen sense of humor, contagious laugh, and ready smile naturally drew people to him. His wood carving and golfing hobbies were the source of much joy, admiration and laughter among his family and friends.
Al attended grade school at St. Columba School in Iona, Minnesota and 1 year of college in Worthington, Minn. His working career included of 18 years in general aviation and 26 years with the Federal Aviation Administration in Chicago and Indianapolis.
Al has been an active member of the Knights of Columbus since 1954 and most recently with Holy Family Council, as well as being a 4th Degree member of Bishop Chatard Assembly in Indianapolis.
Al is survived by his wife Doris McCormick, his brothers Pat (“Mick”) and Tom, his sister Darlene Appel, his children Kathryn Weber and husband Robin, Tom McCormick and wife Wanda, Lynn Knudson and husband Thom, Patrick McCormick and wife Jasmine, and Kevin McCormick and wife Traci, his five grandchildren Kayla, Bryanna, Abbie, Rachel, and Ian, and four great-grandchildren. At St. Christopher Catholic Church in Speedway, IN, the visitation will be from 9:30-10:30am, a rosary from 10:30-11am, and a funeral mass at 11am. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Cemetary followed by a memorial reception at 1:30pm at St. Christopher Church.
